This grindcore band from the UK starts off their full-length debut with a decent instrumental, "Rise of the Leviathan." But it then descends into a Faith No More meets Cannibal Corpse fiasco called "Keeper of the Plaguelands." Vocalist Steve tries to sound like Mike Patton and Chris Barnes had a child but it just doesn't work; it all sounds like Cookie Monster trying to sing metal, which is totally laughable.
The band itself is pretty good, particularly on "Keeper of the Plaguelands." The same cannot be said about "Human Dust," which sounds like Avenged Sevenfold, at least musically with Steve growling about something, which again has this reviewer asking, "Is this guy supposed to be serious?"
It just gets more ridiculous from there with "Sludge City"; bad backup vocals and music which reeks of old Faith No More and Steve screaming like Mike Patton throughout. Another instrumental, "The Childsnatcher," arrives halfway through to quietly cool things down; guitarists Jamie and Alex are pretty decent when they're playing quietly and that's when they get a chance to show they're stuff.
"Prosthetic Erection" shouldn't even qualify as a song, it's just Steve growling about something while sub-par metal plays in the background. If this was King Missile, it would just be another spoken-word piece, which is what it sounds like, but unfortunately, it's a real song. "Years of Disgust" will have you rolling in the aisles, with Steve squealing like a pig talking about "cutting your fucking head off." Please.
The delightfully titled "Fisted to the Point of Regurgitation" tries something new: adding a bit of Lamb of God to the mix, which makes everything worse. Listening to them, I keep asking myself the same question, "Is this for real?" All I really have to say is that Ferret needs to look harder for the ‘next big thing,' cuz this certainly ain't it. That is, unless you like a "singer" grunting, growling and squealing like a pig throughout. If you do, then this is for you. If not, go listen to Lamb of God and you'll feel much better.
