Before I listened to The Ghosts Among Us, I was skeptical. Not because I thought "Oh, another screamo band who probably sounds like UnderOath," but because vocalist Trevor Wentworth of Our Last Night literally looks like he's 15-years-old, but according to his MySpace page he's actually 19 (I don't think I buy it). All age-stereotyping aside, Wentworth's delivery of ferocious screams and growls paired with his brother/guitarist Matt Wentworth's melodic vocals delivers an onslaught of dual vocals that complement each other nicely.

Each track on The Ghosts Among Us is saturated in heavy riffs, hardcore breakdowns and amazing song structure. The opening track, "Symptoms of a Failing System," delivers a binding force of metal-core riffs and raw rhythms. "Timing is Everything" starts off with infectious vocals that pop out and are then fused with the angular riffs and guttural screaming. The track really delivers when Matt's soaring lyrics are paired with the passionate growls of Trevor, whose voice on the album is still in its maturing phase.

"Escape" is an instantly addictive hit with its soaring vocals, rock riffs and rushing breakdowns. "Dreamcatcher" starts off harder than the rest of the tracks with an immediate hardcore drum expanded on by a strong guitar riff and the kinetic flow of Trevor's vocals. "This Is Your Lifesaver" is one of the most solid tracks on the entire album; it's infectious, memorable and brimming with passion. Vocally, the Wentworth brothers do nothing short of deliver extremely penetrating vocals spilling over with an energy and intensity that's consistent throughout The Ghosts Among Us.

"I Have Fought a Measureless Battle" starts of with 80's Rush-like guitars but then immediately bursts into a dance-mosh anthem. The lyrics on this track - as well as the rest of the album - are crafted brilliantly, pushing Our Last Night beyond the typical heavy, melodic metal bands that they may get lumped with.

There are no tracks that do what you expect them to do on a debut full-length album; bore you. Each track has its own exciting blend of lush melodies saturated in deep guitar riffs and throbbing drumbeats. So all jokes aside, Epitaph proved they made a wise choice in signing this little known band from this little known town Hollis, New Hampshire; soon enough they'll turn into overnight sensations and you'll all totally know where exactly Hollis, New Hampshire is.
