When I started listening to this album, I knew exactly where the music and the musicians were going with the whole concept. I hadn't heard this band before and I was hoping they could pull off their attempt at indie/sonic/math rock/underground intellectual art punk without losing themselves in their logic. But, sadly, they did not reach this feat. The songs feel like they lack a real ability to catch the listener and keep him or her intrigued. The structure of most of the songs is unique and shows a deep rooted talent that gets lost with the progressive alternative science class rock that comes up a bit lame in the end.
The thing about this album that makes me not like it as much as I could have is that I understand where the band was trying to go, but I didn't think it was all it could be. The vocals and vocal patterns make me want to fall alseep because it feels like it is almost the same thing everytime matched with space crazy indie rock. It just ends up feeling bland and doesn't make me want to keep listening. Only one track manages to stand out, and that one is "Those Nitro Burning Funny Cars (Fuel Injected)" because it is a total step away from anything else on the album, and if the album had continued with that varied sound, I think it could have been real good. But it doesn't, and the rest of the songs stick with the original sound, and the album loses all its luster, if it ever had any to begin with.
Overall, this album was was just not all there. Maybe for someone who enjoys indie rock, they might be able to listen to this album, but to me this record falls short on many levels.
