I assume everyone out there is familiar with Lifetime, Kid Dynamite and the Bouncing Souls, right? So you take those bands (maybe add some peripheries like Good Riddance or 7-Seconds), smash them together and you get Years From Now. And I know that sounds dismissive, but that's really all you need to know. The kicker is, they're really good, so they deserve a better review than that.
To expand: with quick, fairly melodic, crunchy guitars; strained, non-melodic vocals and flat, low production, Years From Now plays loud, steady hardcore with a positive conviction. Basic stuff. But the band serves as a reminder that the most basic stuff, when perfectly executed, can be really great. Punk as it's meant to be.
And that's why there's so little to say about this band. They just simply did it right. You'd think that if I really liked an album I'd have a lot to say, and I thought that too, but this is the exception.
The album, We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat, is compiled of eight new songs, two tracks from compilations, original demo tracks, and the entire So Much Promise 7". It basically covers the band's whole career thus far. It's another energetic album from Get Outta Town Records hardcore nursery.
