Didn't I just review this album? No? Ughh.
Kidding aside, I think by this point our relationship (the one between me and the readers of this site) we've probably realized that to say I'm not a fan of this genre of ridiculously sweet, glossy, radio-friendly, watered down pseudo-pop-punk, would be an understatement of noteworthy proportions. Understand where I'm coming from though. To someone who grew up on Screeching Weasel, The Queers, as well as all the old classics from the Clash to Minor Threat to Agnostic Front to blah blah blah blah...you get my point. To someone who cut their teeth on that stuff so to speak, it's somewhat insulting to have things like the Plain White T's lumped into the same category by casual observers when they have nothing to do with it.
I was supposed to be reviewing an album, wasn't I? Let's get to that.
My prior relationship with the Plain White T's and their music is pretty minimal. I remember seeing them at a show probably right around this album's original release and being pretty unimpressed. I also know that they had a pretty big hit last year that I managed to either not hear or forget completely. Either way, I'm fine with that.
Stop somehow manages to reinforce my negative impression of the band. It's so mediocre that, after forcing my self through four or five listens, I still have not yet made it all the way through the album without spacing out or getting bored to tears. I just don't understand why this band has gotten so much recognition over other bands of this genre that sound exactly the same.
The album is exactly what you'd expect. Hooks, loud parts, soft parts, cute parts, mean parts, etc., etc., etc. It's all been done before and since and much much better. If you missed this album the first time, let's keep it that way. And if you made the mistake of picking it up when it originally came out; I'm sorry.
