This album seems liked it belongs on Myspace records. It is regurgitated pop rock that sounds like the soundtrack to any MTV rich bitch reality show. The album is basically annoying from start to finish and has no real songs of substance that show any promise of a good band. I'm beginning to get a little sick of bands like this coming around and basically taking the approach of "edgy rockers" when all they truly are is a boy band that plays instruments.
The "hit track" from this album is a track entitled "The Best In Me." To be honest, this band sounds like a poor rip-off of Midtown and old Starting Line, but not nearly as good. The music on the album is fairly laid back and does not ever step up with a powerful piece that can really drive the album; it is a generic pop-punk sound really lacking in punk. It feels like a bunch of guys working at Hollister started a band. The album starts soft and never really picks up. It drones on through the tracks, which don't seem to vary to much from each other, and eventually ends, wasting a good portion of the listener's time.
Overall, Sherwood, with their album A Different Light, is just a carbon-copy of current trendy pop music, a sure indication that the band won't last for very long as the changing likes and dislikes in the "scene" continue. This album could end up being a good pick up for someone who is a fan of The Get Up Kids, Midtown, or Starting Line, but I'm not guaranteeing that even they might really like it. Sometimes the idea of taking what is popular and trying to write music to please the mainstream audience just doesn't quite work out, and that's what happens with this album. I'm just disappointed with some of the music coming out now. Its really a shame to see what is happening with music today. It makes you wonder where music is going.
