Receiving an album by a band you have never heard of from the editor to review is always exciting, especially if there is no press release, no nothing along with it. So I've never heard of Beowülf? So what? Fuck you. We're here to learn, right? So who better to review it? No expectations and no hype equals no prejudice, and that's what any band really wants, right? Critic as virgin. Perfect. Let the criticism begin.
This is good-time, revved-up, party music. These old school guys use the Ramones approach of 16 songs all under 3 minutes to keep your attention and rock you senseless. Three pieces just kick more ass, don't they? Like Motorhead, Beowülf use the volume and the umlaut as only a rock trio can. And they do it well. These guys can crossover any show scene of metal, punk, hardcore, stoner, and even rockabilly with their plain and straight ahead style. Let's not complicate things with the mythology their moniker suggests. These boys are having a good time playing rock and roll. Throw in a song like "Gina Lynne" in the middle of it all to add some acoustic depth and soul and you've got some seasoned musicians here. Westminster & 5th is good, rockin' music that knows no age, time, or scene. Good back to back with beers and Social Distortion.
