It is truly obvious that the people who compiled this CD never got a girlfriend based on their ability to follow the proper formula for a mix tape.  A gift mastered by a few, the mix tape requires a precise blend of genres, melded together in such a way that the songs flow into one another like a story, or even better yet, they flow like an ordinary CD of songs all by one band! The bands on the Warped Tour 2007 compilation CD range from the tried and true old school Warped originals, with their pure punk roots, to up and comers in the new subsets of the punk rock genre that most people have never heard of and will probably never hear from again. What really confuses me though, is the fact that of the fifty bands on the CD, only twenty-two are on Warped Tour this year (based on the latest band listing at warpedtour.com) and of the rest, many haven’t been on the tour for a long time.  Generally speaking, what is the point of putting together a CD of bands to promote the 2007 tour if they are 1) not going to be there, 2) not the best songs by those bands, 3) not the bands that have had the biggest draw in past years, or 4) not indicative of the bands that you will actually see on the tour.

This compilation series has been historically known for its inclusion of at least a few unreleased, rare, “B-side” tracks, and even a few live recorded songs, all of which are not to be found on this disk.  Alongside that is the fact that you will not find many of the singles that have been released publicly and commercially by the bands, as most of the songs (seemingly) are random ones picked from the bands’  (possibly) latest releases.  Overall, it is at most a compilation of current bands and bands they were influenced by, and not really a Warped Tour compilation.

Nothing against the bands, - they are all relatively good in their own rights - but this CD is just not mixed well in most cases, as if it was a last minute deal that they just threw together. If anything, I’d say go through your CD collection, grab all the CDs that these songs came off of, pick out the bands you actually like from the lineup and their best songs, burn your own comp, and save a few bucks. If you don’t have the CDs, do one better and give the money to the bands by buying their records.
