Another summer, another one filled with compilations from our favorite labels. BYO Records has decided to celebrate their 20th Anniversary with the release of "Sample
This Too", featuring the likes of The Bouncing Souls, NOFX, Anti-Flag, Rancid, Youth Brigade, and BYO newcomers One Man Army just to name a few. When reviewing a compilation..... instead of spilling the shit about each and every track I like to list those that a worth the time.
The Bouncing Souls "No Security": Off their upcoming BYO split with Anti-Flag. The opening track and a hell of a way to start off the comp. It features the old school sound of the Bouncing Souls that their last album "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" didn't.
The Unseen "Don't Look Back": From their upcoming full length. In true Unseen style their
intensity and in your face style tears the second track up in a way that is normally expected from these guys.
One Man Army "Victoria": Not a fan of these guys on the "True Believers Tour" with the Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, and Madcap but this is one hell of a tune. It's a combination of an old school rock 'n roll style fuzed with the street punk sound BYO specializes in.
NOFX "Corazon De Oro": From the Rancid/NOFX split. What can I say..... great band, great band covered, great split.
Anti-Flag "No Borders No Nations": Joining the Bouncing Souls is Anti-Flag on the traditional BYO split series due out September 3, 2002. Not being the biggest fan of
Anti-Flag.... listening to "No Borders No Nations" wasn't so bad after all. The track is very Strike Anywhereish and is a good punk rock anthem with lyrics we can all take something away from.
Manic Hispanic "Lupe I'm Free": What can someone say about these crazy Hispanic punk rock all-stars. Another laugh, another song, another album coming out in the Fall of 2002.
Rancid "Vanilla Sex": There's no better way to end "Sample This Too" than with "Vanilla Sex" stolen by Rancid, originally written by NOFX off the biggest release ever in BYO history.
