All Time Low starts out with “Terminal,” which sounds like any typical hxc band, but as the album continues, it really offers nothing past this first song.
The bass is really loose for hardcore, it almost seems out of place in the tracks. The guitar and bass also play in-sync a lot, which leads me to believe they were going for a Minor Threat approach, but since the bass does not stray from the guitar very frequently, the songs sound kind of bland.
After listening to the album awhile, it feels like one big, long song. There are enough drum fills in the tracks to make you realize things are a little different. It sounds like the drummer is utilizing his whole kit, so at least the drumming is pretty good.
This album also made me wonder how you can make three lines or a string of words go so far? The whole middle of the album consists of songs that are under a minute long, so that’s how the album consists of seventeen tracks and is only twenty minutes long. There is also a song that solely consists of the line “Goddamn rich cunt” and another winner in writing department lasting four seconds; “Gotta get the fuck outta here.”
I’ve heard better hardcore, but who knows, maybe these guys are intense live with all the angry lyrics.
