White Walls is one of the most compelling tracks to come out this year. Sludgy guitars over hyper techno beats, then sludgy beats over hyper guitars, then hyper everything, leading to a final blissful chill out session that lasts for the final minute and a half, completely uninterrupted and unpreturbed by the cacophony that preceded it.
The art is just as iconic as the EP’s mind melting visage, but it wasn’t until I bought the LP that I noticed how incredibly intricate it is, with the people inside the burning geodesic dome, the piano on fire visible through the window, and the upside down cross made out of pathway bricks in between the initials G.T. The music is just as detailed. Every synthesized blip and beat is as crisp as a green apple, and every scream and grindy guitar part is captured clearly. For such dense music, every note is remarkable well defined.
Definitely for fans of An Albatross, The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, or any band where silence gives way to dense masses of unpredictability, electronic bird wings flutter, and sparks fly. Definitely a song to throw on at a party when you want everyone to be confused. Definitely an album to get, and get into.
