What I enjoy most about this four piece is that their sound isn't exactly like anything else I've ever heard. They're interesting enough that it makes me want to dig deeper into the stories and the emotions that come across throughout this album. There's confusion, frustration, complication and sexual tension all bound into eleven tracks of pure pop song beauty. But one thing I have to add, this is a love/hate relationship. An equal number of people will want to throw this disc out their car window on an interstate for all the reasons stated above as the number of people who will cherish it and potentially sleep with it placed under their pillow in hopes that the pop Gods will visit them in their sleep.
Standout tracks include "Marry Me," a ballad which gives off a southern dude ranch kind of feel, "Thumbelina," a song about sexual frustrations with lyrics like "Hey dainty girl standing on the side of the road with your thumb in the air, I hope you don't mind me asking…what happened to your underwear?" and I won't keep typing out the lyrics as it digs deeper into some of the most sexually suggestive lyrics since Fifty Cent invited us to go with him "In Da Club." Another one of my favorites is "My Name Is Trouble," because the music soundslike I'm at an 80's roller ball.
What a stellar album! If this disc wasn't super copy protected, I'd put that shit into my Ipod and go dance around the streets for a while in my polka dotted rain boots. I'm absolutely thrilled about Nightmare of You, and I hope someone else will be too and not just rubber stamp it as just another pathetic pop band, which they most certainly are not.
