The pop influences are evident in this release more so than the others, but it’s those melodies and seriously addictive hooks that make it what it is. I read a review somewhere that said they’re maturing and growing but that’s just bullshit because there’s nothing mature or grown up about this album….hence why I like it so much. Perhaps there is a bit more emotion and some greater depth, but that’s all cherry coated with sugary pop punk goodness. There’s nothing shockingly artistic about any of it. NUFAN is just a band that happens to be good at what they do. Not to mention, they were around before I could even turn on a stereo, so I can’t say anything bad about my elders!
Standout tracks include “There Will Be Revenge,” for its charismatic choruses, “Check For a Pulse” for its sweet guitar solo and “Slowly Fading Fast,” because it made me dance. The album in its entirety is under forty minutes, so it’s definitely a quick listen, but a good one. My prediction is that “Keep Them Confused” will be a soundtrack to this summer, and won’t end up in on one of my shelves where I keep albums that never see play time again.
