The Movement is a Danish group who play a retro-styled pre-punk music most easily compared to Scandinavian brethren The (International) Noise Conspiracy.  They dress in fine suits and ride mopeds and are inspired by the old-mod saying “clean living under difficult circumstances” or so their promotional material claims.  Indeed, this image is pretty much all that the band has going for it, with a retro booklet with pictures of mopeds in it and a tired message.  All it needs is a big picture of Mao or Che Guevara in Andy Warhol style and the cliché would be complete.

They are one of few bands in the world who can make the political message of bands like anti-flag or NOFX seem subtle and balanced.  For instance, the first track is called ‘karl marx,’ and its chorus goes “Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, one manifesto, oh so simple.”  In the words of Lenin: ‘dude, weak.’  That said, they are tight and well produced, and while their music is pretty tired and overdone, it is not unpleasant to listen to.  I have a feeling this will never really make it to the states and I can’t really see why it should, but maybe Scandinavian people like it?
