Everything is a little generic, but still makes for a good listen. “The War Of All Against All” is one of the best songs on the album, with some killer guitars and clever lyrics. Actually, the lyrics are eloquent and beautifully written, setting this band and this album apart from all the bands just like them that have been boring me to tears lately. Towards the end of this song, the tempo slows down and gives way to an interesting drawn out conclusion that leads right into “…Then I defy you, Stars,” where the background screams add a nice touch, making it a step above a silly emo song. The Receiving End of Sirens is however, nearly a carbon copy of so many of their equally talented predecessors and while as musicians they happen to be talented and clean, their breakdowns and choruses quickly become redundant and the songs start to lose their appeal. There’s nothing wrong with the music at all and maybe that’s the problem. There aren’t too many risks being taken here, if any at all, and sometimes it’s better for a band to just go out and do something crazy and different in order to gain respect.
High school girls with bad attitudes and college guys who like to pretend they play guitar will most likely enjoy this. People pining for something exotic and unique to make them pee their pants like a happy puppy…hold it in a while longer.
