This album wouldn’t be half bad if it weren’t for the lead singer. I really can’t get past how horrible his voice sounds. Maybe he has the flu while recording or something, or maybe he’s related to Ashlee Simpson. Shit, I just dropped a piece of chicken on my keyboard. Anyway, this guy strains his vocal chords too much, he’s reaching for a note that just doesn’ t want to be there. I’m not trying to sound harsh and mean, it’s just that I’m sick and tired of people who can’t sing being the front man of a rock group with such a huge emphasis on vocals. Sometimes I look in the mirror and see Simon Cowell. Anyway, the worst tracks would have to include “Concrete” and “Safe At Last.” “Irresistible” sounds almost decent because the singer drops his voice down an octave to a range he can actually attain.
The music itself on here isn’t anything too special. Of course it’s all completely overshadowed by the American Idol castaway. Altogether this band is nothing that a hundred other bands haven’t been for a lot longer. I’m not saying Lux Corageous is entirely bad, because I think they have potential, they just need to make something unique and put more effort into it than this. I realize how difficult it is to put out an album, and how heartbreaking it can be when someone tears it apart, but that’s just the way it goes. So my advice to people reading this is not to buy this album not only because I think it’s a waste of money, but because I think this group can do better and I’d like to see them do so before permanent judgments are passed.
