The entire album is like one continuous anthem that brings old skool punk rock (think Screeching Weasel) to the table. Powerful, raw guitarwork compliments the animated and rough vocals of frontman Brendan who opens the album with the line “You can’t dig what you don’t understand”. True enough - I dig this, alright.
I love the simplicity and no-nonsense approach of The Falcon, particularly their lyrics. Sometimes a band can fall into the trap of being too smart and it becomes harder to find a connection to the music, but that’s definitely not the case here. They don’t get bogged down in politics or break my heart crying about their ex girlfriends, either. Hallelujah!
My favourite, and the longest of the five tracks on this EP, is “I'm So Happy I Could Just Cry Myself To Sleep Or The Routes We Wander”. It’s definitely the most catchy and the vocals work exceptionally well, with the drawn-out chorus “Come to life agaaaaaaaain”. It’s funny - it's almost as if the slight imperfections of the vocals enhance the music further. I guess it just adds to the raw vibe of the album.
The Falcon have put together an amazing debut album that any discerning punk rock fan should lap up, it has class written all over it.
