What an inauspicious start to a record label’s career. Hand of Hope 001 is a shitty live recording of a not that great band PLUS! their shitty demos. Now, to be fair I’ve never been a fan of Evergreen Terrace, I saw them live once or twice and was totally put off. That being said, they sound pretty together on this recording from Jacksonville, FL at Jack Rabbits, perhaps even better than when they played Salinas CA at Jim Dandy’s. Its sounds like a high energy set in front of a home town crowd, but still, who wants five live songs they already have heard played better, one unreleased song, and some old bad demos? If you are the one person who finds this irresistible, then my apologies for the preceding statement, but for the rest of you: stay away. If you are a fan of Evergreen Terrace as many seem to be, don’t buy this or the covers album they just put out! Wait for a full length – I mean c’mon demand originality. There’s even a cover on this live record, Zero by the Smashing Pumpkins (side note: it’s disheartening that more people seem to know the words to this cover than any of the originals). What’s it called when your filler albums start crossing over to contain the same songs? Total lack of imagination maybe, or laziness. Greed perhaps? I don’t know. I just cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone.
