This is accessible Swedish inspired metal tempered with the primal American need to mosh. On their second full length, Chicago’s best underrated hardcore band returns with new members (including ex-7A7P guitarist Matt Matera) and the same fuck shit up reckless style. For what it’s worth, the first song is subtitled “(Ready, Set, Circle Pit)”  If you’re not leaving holes in the walls, you’re not listening to Dead To Fall. The theme of this record is dueling and duality; the fight between the titular Villainy and Virtue, the dual guitars riffing off one another, the heavy as balls parts paired with so-gorgeous-you-don’t-want-it-to-stop melodic interludes, all often within the same song. Somehow this albums combination of death metal and melodic metal works so much better than their first album Everything I Touch Falls to Pieces. I wanted to like that record so much, but it just didn’t deliver. Villainy and Virtue though, has that extra spice that makes a good band great, some fucking rock parts, a sing along or two (although nothing can touch hundreds of kids chanting “Everything I Touch Falls to Pieces!”), some amazing artwork, and shit, they’re from Chicago!  What’s not to like?
