Straight out of motherfucking lo-cash, that crack rock steady beat drums on. This was easily my most anticipated release of the summer. Since they got dropped from hellcat and were shopping around for labels ive held my breath. Then Alternative Tentacles had the wherewithall to release it and i could breathe again. What is amazing about these guys is that they have single-handedly created an entire genre of music, with members of the band playing in no commercial value, indk, morning glory, and of course choking victim. For anyone unfamiliar, this style is a blend of ska, punk, death metal, and rock steady, dubbed by the bands as crack rock steady. Expect a steady deluge of fast punk rock riffs mixed with thrashing metal-sounding breakdowns and quick layering second guitar. Lead singer the stza has a gravelly, high pitched, and all-around evil scream and intelligent and well-written lyrics. This band makes their money off of shocking people, as the cover of this album will attest: the twin towers being destroyed with a gas pump on the side and prominent Bush administration officials littering the front laughing. After september 11th stza was quoted "you work in a bank, you die in a bank." Never one to shy from shock tactics, such as using the columbine kids prominently in their last release mediocre generica and having a history of using satanist rhetoric to offend the christian right, their political message is actually very strong if you can get by the external tactics. Take some time and read the lyrics and you will be surprised by how insightful and convincing they can be. This album has upped the cop-hating to a new level from the old stuff, with nearly every song having some anti-police sentiment, including "one dead cop," "gang control," and most of the other songs on the record. A surprise from a loc release is that this is actually a lot music, without filler, as anyone who picked up the 15 minutes of songs and 15 minutes of piano interludes on mediocre generica may tell you. Instead, this ranges over 50 minutes with the secret instrumental, and is nearly all new material, excepting a remake of "rock the 40 oz" and the standout cover of morning glory's "gang control." This is a great cd, go, buy it, and keep that crack rock steady beat rolling on.
