Remember when the Promise Ring broke up?  I was actually at the show.  It was the plea for peace tour stop in santa cruz, California with poison the well and common rider. It was one of the best nights of my life. I don’t want to bash on the Promise Ring though. I want to bash on Maritime. Featuring the songwriter and drummer from Promise Ring, who together created the two Vermont lps, and the bassist from now defunct dismemberment plan, maritime is a soft, emotional, and obnoxious project. They play acoustic guitars, tambourines, keyboards, some synth, bass, and other stuff. Its like a party in my mouth with plain yogurt and cauliflower, which isn’t much of a party at all. The promo dubs it “grown up pop songs that aren’t afraid to embrace the wobbliness of youth,” and I’m inclined to agree. I recommend against buying this cd or listening to it.
