Hardcore ska.  Not like Link Eighty back in the day hardcore ska, when such a categorization would mean horns and a slightly raspy voice, New Jersey's own Folly play today's tech metal hardcore and throw in some skanking rhythms. The band is alternately channeling Dillinger Escape Plan and Catch-22, the math heavy face melting gives way to up-tempo guitars and fluid basslines. This is a melding of yesterdays' trend (ska) and today's overplayed hype (metalcore). Folly tries to save their two favorite sounds by combining them into something new, and while it is new, it isn't fresh. I was really excited to hear this, hoping it could save ska for me, but attaching it to another trend just isn't going to cut it. The songs on Insanity Later are good, I heard one on the radio yesterday and, make no mistake, I turned the sound all the way up, but ultimately the record just isn't crucial.
