Josiah is a God-Faring hardcore band consiting of Dan James (bass), Kyle Dawalt and Bradley Pickens (guitar), Nate Hoffard (drums), and Josh Lee (vocals). Their intentions with the band, and seemingly this album are to spread the love of jesus Christ and show how much he has impacted their lives through music. Well, pure intenions, but Jesus obviously wasn't helping you out in the music department. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against religious music, I've even been known to listen to some. Having spirituality in your music is something that I have a deep respect for, so it's not the theme of this album, it's the music itself that I don't like. One look at these guys and you'd think they were the most cut-throat brutal of hardcore. One listen to the intro of the very first song and you'd be ready to throw down. But no, then the vocals enter and all of a sudden it's like you're standing in the middle on an atrium full of screeching birds...only it's just Josh Lee. Yes, the vocals are very different, and while some people might like them, I find that in this case, different is not always a good thing. I would assume the sound is better live because it seems the mixing on this album was poor because the vocals seem weak and drowned out. The instrumentals themselves however are clean cut and done pretty well, but they're simply nothing I haven't heard a hundred times. Lyrically, this album is a creative nightmare. Religion is art to me, and there's so much you can do with it that Josiah just didn't do. Lyrics include lines like "I love you. I touch your rove to feel your power, to cure the cancer of my soul," and "The sky was blue, the grass was green, she was such an innocent child." The sky was blue and the grass was green? No kidding. In conclusion, I wouldn't rush out and buy this album. I can't really compare them to anything, all I can say is they're typical hardcore with horrendous vocals.
