Radio One is a late-seventies style punk band with a social agenda. Their self-titled effort calls to mind what the progeny from a union of the Sex Pistols, Rancid, and Anti-Flag would sound like. I suppose that could be construed to be positive, but that’s not exactly the connotation I’d like to imply. The music sounds like any song from Never Mind the Bollocks, coupled with some Out Come the Wolves guitar, and an Anti-Flag style vocals which try desperately to be fist-pumping anthems  I was unable to locate anything new or different about their style. All I was looking for was one original thought in their entire release to give me an excuse to endorse a politically motivated band, but I couldn’t find a single thing.  even the lyrics are basically the standard anti-government formula which is advertised as social commentary, but really adds nothing to the political dialogue except one more cliché example of anti-establishment rhetoric. They describe themselves perfectly in the first song, as “the new old sound” (Pipebomb Rebels); they are just another boring band playing a safe and beaten structure. I hate to give one star for anything that doesn’t make my ears bleed, but there really is no way I would listen to this more than once.
