My friends say that I'm getting old when I put on this record. But I can't help it, I really love this one. Don't think that R.E.M. went through a metamorphosis and that they play solid punk now. No, they still bring the same harmonic and soothing music that they brought out two decades ago. And I think that a lot of people who are into Jimmy Eat World, Appleseed Cast, Jets To Brazil or whatever will agree with me. You just need to give these oldtimers a chance. A song that's sure to amaze you is "I've Been High", a dreamy ballad with rather cryptic lyrics. "All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)" and "Imitation Of Life" are more straight forward pop songs, build-up extremely well, and definitely catchy. Two more stand out tracks are "Beat A Drum" and "I'll Take Rain", again, a beautiful ballad. I'm running kinda low on cool CDs nowadays, so I play this one very often, and I don't seem to get tired of it. So I guess it's more than a temporary craze. I am definitely not a R.E.M. connoisseur so I wouldn't be able to tell you whether this record is better than their other records or not, but once again, don't be square, try this one or steal it from your father's collection.
