After three hours of watching The Aquabats, I find myself wondering, how could anyone ever take these guys seriously? Then I realize, the great thing about this band is that they aren't serious. Afterall, how many bands dress up as super heroes and fight giant robots onstage during their performances? Serious Awesomeness is a two-disc dvd set that will either leave you rolling on the floor, or sitting there with your jaw hanging down to your feet. On Disc one, there is a live show from Pomona CA that was filmed in February of 2003. This show is entertaining to say the least, and includes songs like "Super Rad," "Powdered Milkman," "Giant Robot Bird Head," and "Lovers of Loving Love." After this twelve song superhero extravaganza, viewers get to watch a short film describing the history of the Aquabats. It's called "A Sweaty History of Rad-Ness." Finally, we get to watch the music video to "Super Rad," which is in essence, super rad. Disc 2 is full of various clips from different show, and different songs. In a clip of "Giant Robot Bird Head," there is a brawl between The Aquabats and a giant robot, where of course The Aquabats are victorious. That's not the only guest appearance onstage, but I'll leave the rest for you all to find out for yourselves. Possibly the most outrageous part of this dvd set came at the end, when The Aquabats sang a ten minute love ballad with a boy who was inflicted with Downs Syndrome, whom they called "coach." I almost felt bad for finding humor in that. All in all, The Aquabats are once again themselves, and once agail fail to disappoint.
