Fairweather has the ability to create the most overwhelming atmosphere; incredibly evocative without being pretentious. Every single lyric uttered in Lusitania is so emotionally loaded yet sung with level-headed intonation and a lustrous style. Backup vocals are amazingly airy and stunningly almost dissolve in and out to accentuate every single chord and beat. The song lengths are consistently varied and every track is pretty densely stratified into the next, maintaining a perfect flow of tempo changes. Melodies seem complex because of the way guitars fall and are enveloped by the rhythms. The musicianship is so tight and complex and Fairweather shines because this album is so solid and well produced. Listen to the title track to see how ambitious this band really is. They are attempt to be artful as they simultaneously try to just rock out. They succeed and Lusitania is truly a masterpiece of remarkable rock.
