I kinda don't get why it's these four bands grouped together to produce this twelve track compilation. But then, I guess any compilation is sort of random. Do your math and you'll figure out that each band gets three tracks. Midtown's contribution are less than exciting if you're already a Midtown fan. It's most likely that you all already have LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE, so hearing "Become What You Hate" again will merely allow you the chance to sing along and spark a re-discovery of that disc. It made me want to listen to LWITBR again, that CD rules. If you don't have it, or you haven't I don't think you'd buy this CD, so leave it. "Easy Way Out" has also probably been blasted from your stereo more than once. It's from their Eyeball Records release THE SACRIFICE OF LIFE, but it's also on a Midtown sampler that came out a couple of years ago. This comp also covers the second Midtown effort SAVE THE WORLD LOSE THE GIRL, with an acoustic version of "Get It Together". This track definitely adding to the lack of excitement in the Midtown contribution department. This song sounds far better with the full band and fully produced. Gabe has an awesome voice but he just comes off sounding whiny, at times slightly out of tune and over-dramatic with an unexpected "yeah!" . The only cool thing about it is, that you can fully understand every word sung. The lyrics are prununciated clearly so you can take more time to listen to them and understand them. I have never heard of Blueline Medic before. Except that I knew that they were on FBR. I don't like them. They add a Tori Amos cover, "Precious Things". The song "Cathedral" is rhythm heavy and the singer's voice gets lost. In, "They'll Let You Know" you get a guitar heavy song where the singer's voice gets lost. Then mixed in all this is Silent*Corporation. They sound familiar but simultaneously manage to be brilliant. With all their three songs they do a pretty damn good job of being emotional, loud, melodic and downright exciting. The comp actually ends of with a live version of a song called, "New Direction" and it sounds full, clear and fucking good for a live song. My favorite song of theirs on here is, "Don't Look Back". The last band to make up this New.Old.Rare. is Recover who also have three songs that get thrown into this mix. Recover rock. "Fracture" is a song that perfectly shows off their song writing smarts and it's my favorite song off this entire thing. It's unpredictable and in approximately two minutes they show they can pack a mean punch. They're punchy. They're in-your-face. They're fucking good. "Not A Word" isn't the best Recover song, but "Unnatural" makes up for that with the grating and impulsive taste it leaves you with.
