After their spending their careers up to this point on majors from Big Rig to Island, The Bosstones have finally found a label who cares about them and it shows. I find it amazing that Dicky and the boys still have the energy to keep on going after so many years, but with the release of "Jackknife To A Swan" it sounds like they are younger and better than ever. They've taken the sound from "Devils Night Out" through "Pay Attention" and have bundled it up into thirteen tracks.... none of which are bad. Tracks that stick out are the mob influenced track "Mr. Moran", "A Jackknife To A Swan", the Bosstone's style reggae track "Everybody Better", and the growlingful tune "Sugar Free" which is not growl free by any means. One thing I found to be interesting was the music writing done by Joe Gittleman who heads the newly established band Avoid One Thing. I never realized he wrote the tunes for The Bosstones while Dicky is the maker of the lyrics. After listening to Avoid One Thing then The Bosstones, you can definately hear a correlation between the two. Bottom line is I'm adding "Jackknife To A Swan" to the top of my list of albums in 2002. With this album the 'tones gone and beyond what I thought was possible, but then again the man behind the mic...Dicky, has no limits.
