Onita, with very little information describing themselves, kicks off this apparent demo with a heavy pounding rhythm section on "Lowlands." However, when vocalist Shane comes in, it doesn't seem as good as one was hoping. His vocals scream of an eighties metal band, which is not the sound a hardcore band wants to associate themselves with. He just seems like he's trying to sing outside of his range, which may be why he sounds like he does everywhere on the record. The only exception is small fragments of "Time & Tide," where he sounds semi-decent. Of course that song only paints them more as a metal band as Shane just tries but isn't able to make any new waves.
The rest of the band sounds like your typical hardcore band, particularly drummer Dave. Though this demo or EP is incredibly short - only seventeen minutes - it still seems too long. There isn't really anything that might make someone recommend this band to others.
The end of the record, "Familiar Decay," is the band's biggest mistake. Sounding like a blues-metal band with hardcore guitars, they're treading old ground that should never be walked on again. Maybe they're still trying to get their feet wet in whatever they can dip into. It's just not all that interesting, so in their case, it's probably better if they discover what they're strengths are and then continue to build it up from there before heading back into the studio to try again.
