This second full-length from Minneapolis' Off with their Heads gets off to an interesting start with "I Am You;" a driving start with a tight as hell rhythm section and guitars that know how to weave in and out of the rhythm. While the growling vocals of Ryan Young take some getting used to in the beginning, the band's musical abilities are incredibly interesting, if a bit same-y throughout. "Wrong" and "1612 Havenhurst" seem to have the same melody and the same drumming though the bass work on both songs is different and kickass. While every song doesn't have to sound different and unique, a release can walk a fine line in terms of a sound getting stale on a full-length.
While a lot of songs do tend to sound similar, others like "Go On Git Now" are really cool and powerful and make you really want to pump your fist in the air and start singing along, which is always a good sign of fucking amazing punk rock.
At about the halfway point, the band knows that things are starting to sound similar, but they basically said "fuck it, bring it on" and began playing up to their strengths. While some songs like "Fuck This, I'm Out" go on longer than they should, others like "For the Four" belie a message that is really interesting to hear in punk like this; not only are they able to throw a message in, they're able to make everything so catchy that the message is easy to miss. But with this band, it's a bit difficult to overlook anything. In the end, this is one of the more interesting punk albums to emerge this year.
