This band, of which next to nothing is known, have an interesting sound, beginning from the first track, "Movies Won't Take You There." The vocals have a good echo effect on them but they sound like a throwback to the new wave records from the eighties. The record shifts around constantly; one song sounds a bit like Mike Ness of Social D fronting a new wave band and the next song sounds a bit like the Bravery.
The production on this record is so-so but it helps to bring an air to the songs that make them feel rougher and tougher than they really are. It seems that the band took a bunch of different ideas they had and threw them together to see what would happen; long instrumental passages, different vocals from different members - it just seems like they're trying too hard to make themselves different from other bands.
The padding on this album does not help the band make much of a statement with two overtly long instrumentals and the style-shifting that makes it hard to categorize them in one distinct field. But that's not to say that the album is a total washout, it's just the sound of a band not knowing what they want to sound like. The two standouts on the record, "Movies Won't Take You There" and "Poor and Poorly Done" both have light grooves running through that help make them the most digestible cuts. But the constant jumping around just doesn't work. For example, on "Something Dark Steven Said," the singer tries sounding like Morrissey...the listener is left wondering exactly what it is that he, and the rest of the band, are trying to do.
Overall, this record is hampered by all the jumping around and an inability to decipher just what it is this band is trying to accomplish.
