This metal band's members come from many different other bands, including Mnemic and Soilwork. One-Way Mirror's approach is interesting with semi-clean vocals, courtesy of Guillaume Bideau, and the usage of keyboards. The record's standout, "Destination Device," would feel right at home on the radio alongside Killswitch Engage and Slipknot.
The band's approach to metal is quite refreshing because the music isn't constantly beating the listener to death. The guitars of brothers Frank and David Potvin work well together and make the music that much stronger. It's clear that the band have been listening to other bands on Metal Blade and picking little bits of stuff from each to make their own sound that much more unique and it works quite well.
The one down spot of this album is that about halfway through, a lot of it all starts to sound the same. But they're brand new and still trying things so definitely keep an eye on them in the years to come as they hopefully come out with something different that really helps them stick out from the rest of the pack.
The one moment of this record that will make people sit up and say ‘what the fuck is this shit' is the band's cover of that eighties classic "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. While this version is better than Powerman 5000's 2001 version, it still doesn't fit in with the rest of the record and should've been used as a b-side.
Overall, this is a good start for the band and it'll be interesting to see what they come up with next time around. As long as they try some new things, including stretching the vocals a bit, they should hit upon something pretty good..
