Death By Stereo

Interview with Efram on Nov 30, 1999 by Archive Bot

I'd like to thank my buddy Hector at Epitaph and Efram of Death By Stereo for taking the time to make this interview happen. This is an interview with Efram of Death By Stereo.

PB: You guys have become one of the best choices for an opening band, and have hit the road with AFI, Ingnite, Strung Out, Bane, and 7Seconds. Are there any tours that stuck out as being more memorable than the others?
DS: The Bane tour was the greatest summer of my life. AFI tookus on our first tour ever and continue to take care of us. Ignite was awsome. And 7Seconds, What can I say, Legendary! I guess they were all great and I've made some life long friends, but 7Seconds we're my heroes so that was a dream come true.

PB: How do you think the the band has progressed since the days of "If Looks Could Kill"? Are you happy with the stage the band is at now, or is there more you are looking to do?
DS: I'm really happy. I think we're better song writers and I think we still have a lot to learn. I hope we see the world and I think we've got off to a preatty good start.

PB: Obviously, Epitaph was a great destination for Death By Stereo and help helped you guys succeed. Have you ever thought about a major label, or have you stayed away from that?
DS: Epitaph rules and we're not afraid of being huge. I personaly don't have a problem with major labels. Some indies are more crooked than they are. I think it would be cool to make a living off this band and have the whole world hear us, preaching to the converted gets you no where.

PB: Is Ozzfest or The Warped Tour in your future?
DS: Ozzfest.

PB: You recently got socked in the head pretty bad by a crazy fan at a show. Some bands are into crazyness while others enjoy a less hostile atmosphere. What's Death By Stereo's philosophy?
DS: The crazier the better.

PB: I know Sick Of It All admire the work that you guys do. What are some other bands that you guys have a great relationship with?
DS: Those guys are the best and we get along great! I'd have to say Kill Your Idols, Bane , Faded Grey and AFI.

PB: Does Death By Stereo have any pre-show rituals?
DS: We drink deer blood. I take poops.

PB: You guys began in a garage in 1998 and now find yourselves screaming to sold-out crowds. Did you ever think you'd see this day in your life?
DS: I had no Idea. It feels so amazing to have my dreams come true! I hope it never ends.

PB: I read your "Bane 2000 Tour" was the best tour the band ever had! What made is so special, and what does a band learn from such great ones as Bane?
DS: It was so amazing and we learned so much. Not just band bullshit, but about friendship and love.

PB: I usually don't ask bands where they get there names from, but Death By Stereo is so unique. How did it come about?
DS: It's from the movie "The Lost Boys".

PB: What do you think we can learn from the September 11th events and the new world we live in. How did those events effect you as a person and band?
DS: It was a terrible thing that many innocent people had to suffer. I was very saddend by it. I wish we could all learn but it seems like everybody just wants to hide behind the flag now and that's what got us into this mess in the first place.

PB: Lastly thanks for the interview and wish you the best of luck on the rest of you tour with AFI. What can we expect from Death By Stereo for the rest of the year and 2002?
DS: Thank you! We are going to start working on a new record and get back on the road my friend!!!!!!!!
