Days Away

Interview with Band on Dec 17, 2003 by Archive Bot

By: Eva Lee

From a city most well known for its cheese steaks, Philly`s Days Away emerges. With songs ranging in style from soft and alluring, enough to attract any teenage girl to those that will make even the coolest of people tap their foot to the pop-punk beat, these boys will definitely be sticking around for awhile.

PB: why’d you kick out your drummer?

Days Away: it was differences in writing. Yeah creative styles exactly. We were looking to go in a certain direction and we’ve known Tim for a long time, we jammed with him and he’s just got what we need. Nothing against the old drummer though.

PB: so what’s he doing now?

Days Away: I actually heard he may join A Static Lullaby but that’s the rumour. Start the rumour! It’s starting now.

PB: doesn’t that seem like a really common reason now; there’s differences. Doesn’t it get to a point where you should be able to work through differences or are there some things you just can’t work through?

Days Away: that you couldn’t work through. This is my opinion but I just feel like with what we were thinking up in our head, he couldn’t really keep up really and push forward in that direction. Where as he’s [Tim] always there. The chemistry with the new drummer is more comfortable right now this way. It’s just right, it needed to happen.

PB: she [another interviewer] mentioned recognition. Is there a difference between recognition and reputation?

Days Away: recognition in my mind would be more like you look out into the crowd and you’re playing and everybody’s smiling, having fun.

PB: say you’re band is recognized for a certain thing and your band has a reputation for a certain thing.

Days Away: like or actions or our music?

PB: actions.

Days Away: I think it’s completely different obviously because reputation is like oh those kids are crazy! Recognition is holy shit they make good music. It’s like the Yankees. They win all the championships but they also spend 200 million. That’s their reputation but the recognition is that they’re a good team. Good job Chris, I like that. You can build a reputation but you need to be recognized before the reputation.

PB: do you think you have a reputation right now?

Days Away: I couldn’t tell you.
