Every Time I Die

Interview with Band on Sep 20, 2003 by Archive Bot

PB: Ok, lets start with the basics, take me through the process of putting
this band together.

ETID: We were contacted by michael eisner via cryptic
scrolls that we found in the hole of an old oak tree down by the creek.
we have no concept of when they were planted there, nor can we imagine
how he knew we would all come across them on that legendary thursday
afternoon. the scrolls instructed us to meet at an old steel plant
exactly 24 hours later. when we arrived, we found instruments and the
tabliture for all of the songs included on our last four releases.

PB: Interesting...What were some rough spots you hit along the way?

ETID: Well, there was a bees nest on the way to the plant because the only way to gain access was to venture through sagebrush and ivy. also, andy fell into a gopher hole and twisted his ankle.

PB: Who were some of your major influences?

ETID: Lewis and Clark mostly. Their journeys were detailed in our history textbooks as quite similar to ours.

PB: What kind of role did they play in the kind of music you play now?

ETID: None really. the only documented musical adventure of lewis and clark was, once they passed into st. louis, they apparently christened the landscape with a swig of beefeater gin and an acapella version of what we would later know as the guns n roses version of You Could Be Mine.

PB: Did you all plan to make this your career, what kinds of side projects
for backup plans do you have aside from the band?

ETID: I just graduated with a BA in english last december, and got my teaching certificate at the same time. so i can always go back to teach. the rest of these guys are fucked.

PB: What do you love most about being on tour?

ETID: Meeting new people by 7, being drunk with them by 10, embarassing myself by 10:15 and making them regret meeting me forever after.

PB: What's the hardest part of being on tour?

ETID: My boner.

PB: Do you have any plans to headline your own tour soon?

ETID: We'll see. Headlining a tour is like throwing a party every night. What
if nobody comes? What if nobody has fun? Only you are to blame.

PB: Is the band politically driven in any way?

ETID: No, we dont have a driver, let alone a politician driver. andy and i do
most of the driving.

PB: Have you had support in everything from your families? How have they reacted to your success?

ETID: My father actually broke out of jail just to come to our show in buffalo to congratulate us and tell us how proud he was. It was odd, considering he disembodied a 15 year old hooker in tijuana. You wouldnt think a guy like that would be proud of much.

PB: Who in the band is single, and who's taken?

ETID: Andy and Mike and steve are single. Why, you getting emails about how good their hair smells?

PB: Do you have a favorite song, or one that is deeply personal to you, and why?

ETID: The most personal song, to me, is jeff buckleys "lover, you should have come over". It seems like hes blaming someone for not being there to stop him from making mistakes. As if there was no lifeguard on duty, and he was given time to explore his vices. Displacing blame is something i do quite consistently.

PB: Twenty years from now, when I'm sorting through my old cd collection and I come across one of your albums, how do you want to be remembered?

ETID: Vivdly

PB: Is there any real leader in the band, or does everyone basically do
their part?

ETID: Jordan is pretty much the leader but only because he bought himself a crown from the party store and wears a sash. sometimes, when he drives, he decorates the drivers seat with skulls and jewels.

PB: How do you try to set yourselves apart from other hardcore bands, so you're not just thrown in a pile along with everyone else?

ETID: By shit talking them. Haha. No, we just do our own thing. and our own thing is nobody elses. It comes naturally.

PB: What would you say to the kids out there that admire you, and have
dreams of forming their own band and getting to where you are now?

ETID: Stop It.

PB: What are your views on "selling out?" What do you think it is, and
who do you think has done it?

ETID: Nobody. If you do what you want, and you experience no guilt because of it, then you cant "sell out". Well, except for transsexuals. They're sell outs. I mean, c'mon.

PB: Any famous last words?

ETID: A few.
