Interview with Andrew on Nov 30, 1999 by Archive Bot
I'd like to thank Andrew of Something Corporate and their manager Brent for their consideration and kindess. This is an interview with Andrew of Something Corporate.PB: I have heard plenty of talk and requests about "Ready.... Break" your self-released cd. The band announced it will be sold at your December 23rd show, but was wondering how bout the rest of us East Coast kids?
SC: Well, I think we've gone officially out of print. But we're looking into making a handful more and doing some cool web promo for all the fans across the country who have been so cool in helping us get the word out about the band.
PB: When you wrote the song Konstantine, did you make it nine minutes so it was long enough to get your nasty on (have sex)? If you didn't I want you to know it's just long enough for most of us. Any plans on more sexually timed songs, and if so what can we expect?
SC: HAHAHAH! I'm so glad you were present when I decided to tell all of Poughkeepsie that the sole purpose of the song was to get laid. Honestly, the song was never really intended to be that long, and no it was not lengthened to accomodate any sort of twisted fantasy. I'll let you know as soon I decide to write a song just long enough to get off....
PB: I cant say enough good things about your new EP "audioboxer". You guys arent exactly the typical run of the mill band so I was wondering how the response has been to the EP, and are you truly satisfied with the outcome?
SC: We we're thrilled with the outcome. It was so amazing recording the EP. We never expected so many people would catch on so quickly, let alone radio.
PB: My first "Corporate" show was in Poughkeepsie, New York. Before the show I saw something I've never see a band do before which is form a huddle. Do you guys pray before each show or just have a pep-rally? Do you have any pre-show rituals?
SC: We do a band prayer prior to every show. Not all of us are super religious or anything, but honestly with how blessed we've been I'm pretty sure thanks are definitely in order.
PB: Your debut release "Ready..... Break" was released earlier in the year. Now that "audiobxer" is out I was wondering how you guys think your sound has grown or how youve grown as musicians?
SC: Most definitely. I love "Ready...Break" cuz it was a really raw demo, but "audioboxer" is such a milestone. It's almost strange to listen to the growth and know we're the same band. I've got a feeling we'll have the same opinion with our new record that we're recording right now.
PB: Selling out the House Of Blues is a hell of an accomplishment. Did you ever think that time would come, and now that it has do you feel you guys have taken a step up to the next level?
SC: I think it was a really natural progression for us, because locally we've been building our fan base for a couple years, but it is certainly something we're proud of. Those shows are completely magical.
PB: I read that you have begun working on a new full-length. What can we be expecting to hear from Something Corporate? Is there a title or release date yet?
SC: No title yet, no release date but it's going to be awesome. There will be a couple tunes off the ready break demos and a few off audioboxer. The rest will be new songs and I am so excited. We're gearing up to make a really versatile rock record. Very musical.
PB: The song Konstantine is phenomenal and hope you include it on the new album. Whats the inspiration behind that song?
SC: I was in this really long and trying relationship and I just couldn't shake this girl from my system. It was written over a couple months and kind of charts this saga that we went through as a couple. It has always been a really special song for me.
PB: You play the piano like no one I have ever seen. Thinking of possible influences that jump on the piano like you is impossible. Who are some people/musicians that have had a big effect on your musical career?
SC: Billy Joel would be the biggest I'm sure, but from there I listen to many types of music. I really love, Incubus, Jack Johnson, and David Gray recently. As far as piano jumping, well thats just a good time.
PB: Lastly, thanks for taking the time to give punkbands.com a piece of your mind. After meeting the band, you guys seemed like a great group of guys with good ideals. What are some beliefs the band feels strongly about that play an important role in your musical lives?
SC: We are a really close group of guys. It's always been a friends first mentality with us. I think the most important thing about playing music in an ensemble is that you are tight personally before you are musically. Honestly, we all just share a love for music and that motivates our decisions as a band. Theres not much more to it than that. Thanks for the interview and the incredible show in NY.
