Due to the fact that the band left the possibility of playing together again open, rumors and speculation circulated that a reunion was inevitable. The hiatus of Joe Gittleman's band, Avoid One Thing, added to speculation of such a reunion.
During an AP Acoustic Session, members of fellow Boston area ska band Big D and the Kids Table alleged that the Bosstones were in fact reuniting for another Hometown Throwdown. Jerry Mattis, the creator of the Bull dog logo also acknowledged the Bosstones were reuniting, and announced he was making a new logo for the band.
On October 11, 2007 at 12:06 EST, Boston Radio Station WBCN played a segment of a song called "Xmas Time (It Sure Doesn't Feel Like It)." Front man Dicky Barrett then confirmed what was called "the worst kept secret in Boston": the announcement that the Bosstones would play a 10th official Hometown Throwdown at Cambridge's famed Middle East club on December 26th-30th, 2007. Barrett would not however, confirm any long-term plans for the band. The radio station then played a full block of the Bosstones' 1998 live album "Live at the Middle East."
Tickets for the five Middle East shows went on sale on October 19, 2007 and sold out in a matter of minutes. Online ticket scalpers are now charging as much as $1250 per ticket. The Bosstones have also added a New Year's Eve show in the New England area. Further information on the reunion can be found on the band's new website Bosstonesmusic.com
Joe Gittleman recently declared that the band intends to record three new songs which will be included with unreleased material and vinyl b-sides on an upcoming collection titled Medium Rare. The album is expected to be released before the shows in December.[4]
The band recently launched a "Road to Throwdown" video series that will update bi-weekly until the Throwdown in December. In the second installment of the series, the band debut a new track "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker", which will appear on their upcoming compilation.-
