“I pre-ordered the EP!” yells a fan out of his car window as he passes the band.
As this band grows in popularity, their enthusiastic view of life spreads to fans like a plague. The charismatic, driven 20-somethings of pop-infused rock band Every Avenue are not like every other band hitting the music scene right now. “A lot of bands are writing about dark/bleak situations and making it even more depressing by listening to it,” says drummer Michael Govaere. “We try to stay fun and energetic. We don't scream or do cliché hardcore breakdowns like so many other bands.” Listeners can’t help but see life in hues of rose, if only temporarily, while Every Avenue is playing.
Debuting August 14 on Fearless Records, the band’s EP “Ah!” is a pop rock-driven compilation of six songs. The Marysville, Michigan group formed in 2003 and the following year, Every Avenue released their self-titled first album. Now, three years later, the band is signed, expecting a new EP, and is taking off with the help of producer John Naclerio (My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail). Their volume increases with an approaching tour and focus on their upcoming album.
The band’s single for the EP “Where Were You?” was written by lead vocalist/pianist David, who says, “It has to do with a girl I dated back in the day and we liked each other a lot. It just ended and there was no reason for it. Then later on she came back.” A brokenhearted and confused David, as the song says: “Where were you when I needed you most?…It is the same old runaround. You build me up just to let me down,” put his frustration down on paper, remembering he’s not the only one to be led on by a potential love. David says, “Our songs are about every day life that everybody goes through.” In incorporating this no-nonsense subject matter into their songs, Every Avenue’s music is inspiring and strikes a chord in listeners hearts – the music is something to which everybody can relate. "We have always pushed ourselves hard to make a one on one connection with all of our fans, and that is never going to change," says bass player and backup vocalist Cam Grenstiner.
The band’s character, energy and overall sound are compelling and always fun-filled. In a short time, they have accomplished so much. Every Avenue will continue to create and diversify music, bringing an ever-growing fan base along for the ride. Listeners can expect to be impressed and fall hard for this band. “We love what we do,” says Michael. That kind of passion is contagious and reflects in the hearts of fans.
Another song on the EP sums up their attitude and dedication to their music. “One More Song” as Michael says, “was about our struggle to make it as a band after a hard time in 2006.” They never gave up, and kept their heads held high. As the song goes - “We only get one chance at this. In this life it is hit or miss, but hopes and dreams and memories, you can’t take away from me!”
